Teresa earned a dual master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling, with her bachelor’s degree in Family Studies at The University of New Mexico. She has been practicing psychotherapy for many years with a highly diverse clientele of various racial and cultural backgrounds.
Teresa is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of New Mexico. She started her career as a therapist at a nonprofit domestic violence agency where she discovered her passion for working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma. This passion lead her in becoming the clinical director, where she was able to write grants and develop programs for survives and their children of domestic violence. Through this experience she was able to see the need for mental health providers for all types of trauma.
Teresa is EMDR Therapy trained and utilize this technique when clinically appropriate. EMDR Therapy has been proven to be very helpful in areas such as trauma, grief and loss, self-esteem, anxiety, and when one "feels stuck".
She provides clinical supervision for therapists working toward their LCSW, LPCC license. She takes a flexible approach to supervision and meets you where you are in your training. Common supervision meetings include reviewing cases, problem-solving, assistance with the licensure process, and processing personal reactions to the therapeutic work.
